Chester branch takes part in Wear It Pink fundraiser
Posted on 16 February 2023
In October 2022, staff at SureCare Chester joined in with Wear It Pink day to raise funds for breast cancer research and support. With the Chester care office so close to SureCare’s national Head Office, our teams joined forces to spread the love and boost our fundraising potential.
Both SureCare Chester and SureCare Head Office took part in Wear It Pink day on 21st October. Staff from both offices wore pink items of clothing, sold pink cupcakes and held raffles for various prizes to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now.
Initially, the care office at SureCare Chester intended to raise funds for Wear It Pink day themselves. Once our nearby Head Office heard of this, however, we jumped at the chance to join in and pool our collective resources together. By making it a bigger event across both offices, we could aim a little higher with our fundraising target.
The day’s Wear It Pink activities
The team at SureCare Chester invited service users to the care office for a day filled with events, prizes and fundraising activities. Care clients came in for a spot of lunch, as well as a few rounds of bingo and a quiz. There was a wonderful sense of community during this office party and the Chester care team were thrilled to see so many of our service users enjoying their day with us.
We carried out additional fundraising by selling cupcakes throughout the day, alongside raffle and tombola tickets for some nice prizes. All in all, we were glad to put on a great day for all involved, especially for such an important cause. And, of course, everybody looked fantastic dressed head-to-toe in bright pink!
Alongside the party in Chester, nine of our SureCare Head Office team set off on a sponsored five-mile walk around the nearby Chester Racecourse. There were a lot of tired legs towards the end, but fortunately the weather was on our side thanks to some autumn sunshine.
An extra special ‘Thank You’ to our sponsors and supporters
All of the raffle and tombola prizes were kindly donated by a number of local businesses and organisations and staff. Our utmost thanks go out to all involved, including Chester Racecourse, Chester Zoo and Chester City Football Club, who all donated pairs of tickets.
We were also given the chance to raffle off gift vouchers and hampers from local establishments Chester Boutique and Tanners Wines, as well as an evening at the elegant Ristorante Sergio in the heart of Chester.
After reaching out to attractions a little further afield, we were grateful to receive donations of tickets for various race days at Newbury Racecourse, Leicester Racecourse and Ripon Racecourse too. Everyone at SureCare Head Office and SureCare Chester would like to extend our appreciation to all sponsors and supporters who contributed towards our Wear It Pink fundraiser.
With all prizes distributed at the end of the afternoon, we were delighted that so many of our service users received some luxury items and experiences as part of a successful day of fundraising.
A big thank you also to family and friends for supporting the day through buying raffle tickets and sponsoring the walkers!
How our funds will help to tackle breast cancer
With the two offices joining forces, we set our sights high on a fundraising target of £3,000. We were thrilled to smash that target, pulling together a final total of £3,527. All the funds raised through SureCare’s Wear It Pink day have been donated to the appeal run by Breast Cancer Now, who will use the money they receive to help fund important cancer research and support for those dealing with breast cancer.
Established by the charity Breast Cancer Now, Wear It Pink encourages individuals and groups across the UK to don pink T-shirts, blouses, jackets, hats and anything else that will make them stand out from the crowd for a day.
With community bake sales, raffles, quizzes and sponsored challenges galore, people from across the country have unified in raising money and awareness for tackling breast cancer. Not only that, the charity also aims to providing support for the tens of thousands of people who are affected by breast cancer every year.
This was a particularly poignant event for many of our staff at Head Office, as we took part in the Wear It Pink fundraiser in loving memory of a dear colleague. By coming together in support of an important cause like this, we wanted to honour her memory whilst doing our part in the fight against cancer.
