Our Christmas Jumper Day smashed its fundraising target!

Over the last couple of years, we’ve put on our festive knitwear in December and chipped in for a nominated charity, organisation or individual in need… and 2016 was no different. Last month, we encouraged everyone across the SureCare network – from our head office team to our various local branch operators – to join in with Christmas Jumper Day!

On Friday 9th December, we dug out our annual jumpers to become Santas, penguins, reindeers and Christmas puddings for a day! Alongside our festive Friday wardrobe, we made donations towards a very worthy cause – the Lily Foundation.

The Lily Foundation researches Mitochondrial Disease and other metabolic disorders, which is one of the most widespread diseases in young children today, even claiming more lives than childhood cancer. Despite this, it’s still a largely unknown illness with little public knowledge and awareness.

The foundation was set up in memory of Lily, who lost her short battle with Mitochondrial Disease at just eight months old. Since 2007, the Lily Foundation has been committed to contributing towards research initiatives into this rare disease, alongside providing support for affected families and raising awareness in among the wider public.

We chose to support the Lily Foundation this year as it’s a cause that’s very close to the heart of one of our care workers. We had quite a considerable target in our sights, but our incredible team outdid themselves with this fundraiser, raising a grand total of £1,011 on the day.

We’re proud to have supported such a worthy cause with the proceeds from our 2016 Christmas Jumper Day. Just knowing that our fundraiser has contributed toward that all-important medical research, we’re hopeful that a cure for Mitochondrial Disease may be found very soon.

We’d just like to quickly take the opportunity to wish everyone across the SureCare network and the Lily Foundation a happy, healthy and prosperous 2017!
