Dealing With Terminal Illness
Posted on 18 December 2013Our teams here at SureCare are highly experienced in supporting not only those who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness, but their families too.
It is inevitable that those affected by a terminal illness will find it hard to stop thinking about the condition and the implications for themselves and their loved ones.
You have to live with the constant reminders such as regular visits to the hospital for appointments, the daily medication that needs to be taken or the tasks that you are no longer able to complete without support.
There is no correct way to respond to the news that you or a family member has a terminal illness. Everyone copes in their own particular way – there is no right or wrong way.
For some people, the initial reaction is to ask: “Why me?” or to lash out and blame others. Others are more silent and inward looking in the way they try to come to terms with the news that they have a terminal illness.
Sometimes people want to talk straightaway while, for others, they need time to reflect before seeking support from either family, friends or professionals.
A lot of people do eventually find the right care and support to be invaluable either for themselves or their loved one who has been diagnosed with a terminal illness.
Our many carers are vastly experienced in providing the right care and support for those who have a terminal illness. You may just need someone to talk to or to help with household tasks or helping you to get going in the morning or go to bed in the evening. We can also provide all the help you need attending doctors’ or hospital appointments, collecting prescriptions and other essential tasks that need to be completed.
If you or a loved one would benefit from having a SureCare carer to assist and support them, please give us a call to discuss your particular requirements and how we can help.
