SureCare celebrates 30th anniversary this year

2024 marks SureCare’s 30th anniversary year and we’re thrilled to kick off the celebrations by setting our sights on continued expansion of our nationwide franchise network.

We also have a few little extra surprises in the works at the moment, and we’re looking forward to sharing a little more about these later this year.

But first, a little look back on SureCare’s history…

SureCare was originally founded in 1994 by husband-and-wife team, John and Gill Ford, to provide care at home for elderly people in the Chester area. Operations proved successful enough that the business became a franchise model for aspiring care providers elsewhere in the country.

Ownership of SureCare has changed hands a couple of times, with current owners, Managing Director Gary Farrer and his wife Stephanie, acquiring the business in 2014. From the Chester Head Office as base of operations, their son Josh also joined the business in 2016 as Franchise Recruitment Manager, to drive the nationwide expansion of SureCare.

Over the last decade, Gary and his team have seen SureCare’s service offering grow from domiciliary care packages to a complete range of home care services, including childcare, companionship care, pet care, cleaning, shopping calls and handyman work.

Today, SureCare boasts a nationwide franchise network of over 70 independently owned and operated branches. As the regulation of personal care is devolved in the different UK nations, SureCare has primarily operated throughout England only. However, we recently launched our first two branches in Scotland in the last six months, now serving communities in Glasgow and Ayrshire. There are also plans to expand into Wales and Northern Ireland on the horizon. We hope to share more news on this in due course.

Onwards and upwards

SureCare has set the wheels in motion in recent years to accelerate the expansion of our franchise network. Now with more than 70 branches and growing, we’re thrilled that our unique range of quality care services is able to reach more communities than ever before – especially at this time of rising demand across the health and social care sector.

Gary Farrer said: “We are targeting 30 new franchises in our 30th anniversary year and see no reason why we can’t become a 150-franchise company in the next two years.

“None of our success would have been possible without the support of a fantastic head office team and the passion and dedication of our franchisees and their teams who are committed to providing person-centred care of the highest possible quality.”

He also reflected on the legacy of SureCare so far, saying: “The original founders were a family business just like ourselves and we have the same purpose to provide our clients with the best possible care.

“For SureCare today that means offering a complete range of services for life’s journey, whether that is working parents who need childcare, an elderly person needing companionship or someone requiring our full domiciliary care service.”

The value of care today

As demand for home care services continues to rise, SureCare is determined to support as many people as we possibly can, now and in the future.

Like many providers in the social care sector, SureCare teams across the country faced a significantly testing time during the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns. Our commitment to high quality standards of hygiene, infection control and client safety are always paramount, but the pandemic really shone a light on just how vital our services and our care workers truly are.

We also found this period useful to identify other keys areas where SureCare could support communities in other ways. This meant expanding our range of services to include things like dog-walking and shopping services for vulnerable people shielding at home. Our open-minded and flexible approach means our care teams are always open to feedback to see how else we can support clients.

Gary continued: “We’re also now providing clients with their cleaning and handyman requirements and even looking after their pets! The breadth of services we offer makes us truly unique.”

Looking ahead

As we celebrate 30 years in business this year, we’re also looking forward to what the future holds for SureCare.

Some of our franchisees have been in business for over 25 years, whilst others have recently come on board. Gary notes that having the right franchise model in place is an important aspect of our business, as this enables franchisees to have the kind of longevity for continued success.

Original founder John Ford said: “Gill and I are delighted that the SureCare brand is still going strong after 30 years and that Gary, Josh and the rest of the team remain as passionate about the importance of delivering person-centred care as we did when we launched the business in 1994.”

We’ll also be sharing news of a few more little developments later this year, so watch this space!
