Every day is different… join us!

Working in adult social care can be incredibly rewarding.
SureCare Wycombe & Chiltern’s care assistants help and support people with all aspects of daily life. For individuals who are ageing or have medical conditions, chores that were once easily carried out can become difficult and/or tiring to accomplish. Our care assistants work in people’s own homes within the community and can support lots of different people including adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, dementia and other mental health conditions.
What might the role involve?
The role of care assistant is varied, and every client has their own individual needs and preferences. Some clients may only need support with social and physical activities, whilst others require assistance to book appointments and may ask us to accompany them to their appointments. Care assistants also help with personal care such as showering and dressing; assisting people with eating and drinking and they are also trained to help with medication.
As you build up familiarity with your clients an important aspect of the role is to monitor individuals’ ongoing conditions.
What skills do I need?
Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential as interaction with clients during your care visit is very important. Every day will be different so you will need good organisational skills and be able to work well and calmly under pressure. You will also need to be a good team player and contribute to the effectiveness of the team.
The ability to understand and follow policies and procedures and good writing skills to fill in care plans are also necessary.
What experience and qualifications do I need?
You don’t necessarily need qualifications to become a care assistant with SureCare Wycombe & Chiltern. We place a higher importance on your character and look for people who are kind, compassionate, thoughtful, reliable and trustworthy.
However, qualifications showing good English and numeracy skills such as GCSE in English and Maths are desirable. It might also be helpful to have a social care qualification such as a Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care. Don’t worry if you don’t have these qualifications though – if you’re interested, you can work towards them once you start the job and we will assist you along the way.
How do I progress?
If you are interested, then in the first instance please contact us and we will be happy to discuss our opportunities in more detail. We will then arrange to carry out a friendly interview to check your suitability for the role and to give you an opportunity to ask us more about the role.
If your interview is successful you will be invited to complete our induction which will lead onto the Care Certificate – these are the minimum standards that everyone working in social care needs to reach and if you need help to complete them we will provide assistance. You will also receive mandatory training such as health and safety, first aid and moving and handling, or specific training such as autism awareness, communication skills or training to help you support people with dementia.
SureCare Wycombe & Chiltern has ambitious growth plans so there may be opportunities to progress into management roles, or you might choose to go into other roles such as a senior care assistant or coordinator.
